Jonathan changed my life. He turned my life upside down. His cherubic face would melt my heart everytime. The impish mischievious twinkle in his eyes defied what laid behind the surface then.
Jonathan has leukemia. I was then a freshman volunteer at Club Rainbow, mentoring ill children, still healing the wounds from losing the first child I mentored to leukemia.
10 years on. Jonathan defies statistics and is enjoying his life back home in New York. Graduating from high school in a few months; experienced first love; tasted his first kiss. The impish 8-year-old Jonathan is no more. He's grown to be a mature, sensible young man.
I was Jonathan's mentor for 4 years and in that time, he taught me to experience life. To not be afraid to fail; to fight for what matters; to hope and have faith. To believe.
Johnathan, I may be your mentor 10 years ago, but you've mentored me in this journey of life. ~ Inspira
