Kidulthood is a bold film. Armed with a stylistic direction, it mixes pace and sharp wit with a rather bleak and horrific social commentary.
Watching the director's cut in a room in Carlton Hotel the weekend M and I got married in April, Menhaj Huda's film grabbed me with its brutal honesty.
I thought it showed the harsh reality the kids of today have to live through - the bullying and the constant pressure to outdo a peer; a friend. Whilst we try hard to ignore it, sex is currency and drugs are easy for the kids these days.
It's bloody hard to be a teenager, as the film shows. But even in these crazy times, these kids can choose to break the cycle of violence.
The question remains: Do they want to get out now or do they wait until the currency and the commodity run out? ~ Inspira
